With the release of WordPress version 4.2 the development team added support for emoticons (emojis) built into the core. This support adds a good deal of code to the core that can be seen if you check your source code when your WordPress site loads. If you do not use emoticons on your site or emojis you can disable this from loading by adding the following code to your functions.php file:


// Remove the emoji code addded to wordpress core
remove_action('wp_head', 'print_emoji_detection_script', 7);
remove_action('wp_print_styles', 'print_emoji_styles');

If you are unfamiliar with adding code to your functions.php file you can just use the following plugin to disable the emoticons code:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-emojis/

The code you will be removing looks like the following:
